A true kitchen gadget junkie isn’t a bit bothered by the plethora of non-essential gadgets out there. So when shopping for your favorite cooking enthusiast you might want to consider a non-essential kitchen gadget. I recently ran across one that I’ve never considered before. It isn’t exactly a fit for a coffee and water drinker like me but it’s likely to cause smiles on the faces of the do-it-yourself lovers on your holiday lists who also enjoy drinking soda. It’s from Soda-Club… and naturally, this kitchen gadget lets you make soda at home.

Now, I don’t have this non-essential kitchen gadget myself but I’ve heard the only caution is you may get sprayed with some bubbly water if you don’t read directions carefully!

One thing I find very cool about this device is that while it takes up about the same amount of space as a coffee maker, it doesn’t need electricity or batteries. (Which is extra cool because I was teaching kids how to make their own root beer a long time ago and we never needed any electricity or batteries then either )

All you really need is cold tap water and your preferred flavoring! With that it’s just a matter of using the nifty re-usable carbonating bottle (curiouser and curiouser) that is included with the soda maker. You hook it to the machine, push a button and watch the bubble action.

The fact that you can control the amount of carbonation almost tempts me to get one for myself… it’s the carbonation that bothers me so if the process allows me to make semi-flat soda for myself and super fizzy for the fizz-lovers, all the better.
